This meditation is an antidote for depression. You will find that, properly done, it totally recharges you. It will give you the capacity to deal well with life.
TUNE IN Sit on the floor in an easy cross-legged position, preferably on something made of wool or other natural fabric (blanket, sheepskin, etc.) If sitting on the floor is uncomfortable, sit in a chair with your bare feet on the floor. Bring your hands into prayer mudra at your heart center (palms together, thumbs pressing in and up slightly at the sternum). Since this is a Kundalini Yoga meditation, you should "tune in" before you begin by chanting the Adi Mantra three times: ONG NAMO GURU DEV NAMO.
ANTIDOTE TO DEPRESSION Sit with a straight spine in an easy cross-legged position. Arms are extended straight out in front of you, parallel to the floor. Close your right hand into a fist. Wrap the fingers of your left hand around your right-hand fist. The bases of the palms touch. The thumbs are close together and are pulled straight up. The eyes are focused on the thumbs.
Now inhale for 5 seconds (do not hold the breath in); exhale for 5 seconds; hold the breath out for 15 seconds. Continue.
Start with 3-5 minutes and work up to 11 minutes. Build up the time slowly. Take care not to hold the breath out so long as to make your self dizzy or nauseous.
RELAXATION Any practice of Kundalini Yoga should be followed by relaxation for 5-10 minutes, laying on the back in corpse pose (palms facing up at your sides). This allows the full effects of the practice to circulate throughout your body.
